So big and juicy you eat them with a spoon. That's what Harry and David used to say about our most popular product, Royal Riviera® Pears. Since 1934, we've grown this gourmet pear in a handful of orchards, picked and packed them by hand and sent them all over the country. Famous for their size and taste, these pears can't be beat.

Summrtime Royal Pears

Although good, the pears were not as delicious as they are later on during the year. We found them to be a bit grainy and not as juicy.

We have bought Harry & David's Royal Riviera pears for years both to enjoy ourselves and to give as gifts. We and the gift recipients have raved about the taste and quality of the pears. In the past we have bought the pears late in the year for our use and as Christmas gifts. However, we recently [February 2012] bought a box for ourselves and one as a gift. We noticed that these pears were not a tasty as usual and didn't understand why. They also took much longer to ripen. Then i noticed on the box that these pears were grown in Chile. We buy fruit from Chile on occasion so we have nothing against the country or its produce. However, be aware that if you buy Royal Riviera pears after the U.S. growing season is over you may be getting a genetically identical pear but one that is of lower quality than those grown in the U.S.

Comments about Harry & David Royal Riviera Pears:

I love that one was fully ripe when the box arrived so that I could start enjoying them right away. I would bring them out one at a time from the fridge so that they did not all get ripe at the same time. They were so juicy that it just dripped juice all down my arm while eating it.

Comments about Harry & David Royal Riviera Pears:

I ordered these for myself--I always send Harry & David gifts at Christmas, but sometimes I crave these pears and have to buy some for myself. The day after they arrived they were perfectly ripe and I didn't think I'd be able to eat them all before they got over-ripe, so I took them in to work as a healthy treat for my colleagues while we sat in on a videoconference. Good thing I brought in a stack of paper towels, because they were super-juicy. The pears were a huge hit!

Refrigerate the box and pull one out each day. Keeps them from all being ready at the same time, but they are really best at room temperature.

I received this as a Mother's Day gift from my sister and brother inlaw. They were delicious!! I followed the instructions and let them ripen in the box for two days, they were perfect! I even made the recipe that was sent in the box, also good! I am not one to write reviews, but I had to for this one! The pears were in perfect condition and quite large! Thank you Harry and David!

Received as a Mother's Day gift. These are the most juiciest, best tasting pears I have ever had. They are the perfect size and makes the perfect snack. The taste is indescribable. You would have to try it to believe it. The last bite is as good as the first. I LOVED these pears and don't know if I could ever buy pears in the grocery store again. Yes, they are just that good!!

These are without exaggeration the most succulent pears I have ever eaten. This year I sent them as gifts to several friends/family, as well as myself. I have gotten calls, emails and texts from everyone. The reviews are spectacular. The fruit arrives almost ripe. In 3 days they are soft and ready to be refrigerated. BE CAREFUL; they are so juicy you may want to wear a bib.

That's an excellent question! We pack our delicious Royal Riviera Pears by weight, rather than size. Since the size of pears varies somewhat according to the whims of Mother Nature, so does the number of pears we can fit in a box.

This variety of pear is actually called "Royal Riviera". This variety was first grown in France, near Angers in the 1840's, and Harry & David have been growing this variety for nearly 60 years.

Thank you for your question! Our "Favorite" Royal Riviera Pear is a variety of Comice pear, and is our signature product. They are generally recognized as the sweetest and juiciest winter pear variety, and grow well in only a few parts of the world - including Southern Oregon, where our orchards are located.
