This cake is not "small" if you read the measurements, it's exactly what it says. But it's what we always called a "LOAF CAKE" not a full-size bread. A dessert cake in a dessert size. Recipient could be prepared to expect that. H&D "number served" is high.
I sent to my mother who loves pineapple and she said it was delicious, "I feel like I'm in Hawaii." It was fresh, moist, and nice flavor.
Delivery a bit confusing as the external label apparently was so complex that the "from" and "message" were difficult to locate. Frankly, I feel H&D should include CARDS with every single order, in the plastic external pouch, no extra charge.
A quality item and special gift looses some of its class and charm with a computerized print-out on the box. It's not clear who wrote the message when it feels so impersonal.

I thought the cake would be similar to a quickbread -- e.g., banana nut bread -- made with pineapples and macadamia nuts instead of bananas and nuts. I was disappointed to discover that the texture, taste, and sweetness was that of a fruitcake.
In retrospect, from the name ("cake") and the photo, I should have realized.
As to flavor, the pineapples, as is typical of the fruit in fruitcakes, were candied to the point that you couldn't tell what kind of fruit it was and I think that macadamia nuts are too mild in flavor to be in such a heavy cake. Walnuts would have been a better choice.

This cake was moist and buttery. The pineapple in it is the candied variety like you'll find in a Christmas fruitcake. However, the ratio of fruit to cake is more balanced. Unlike a traditional fruitcake that is mostly fruit and nuts with very little actual cake, you will definitely notice and taste the cake here. This is the perfect spring or summer treat for the fruitcake lover and is actually a decent value. I considered purchasing this very same type of cake from 2 other sites, and in both cases the cake was smaller and more expensive. It is very rich though so a little will go a long way.
Service and delivery comments:
Delivery was prompt, but all of my purchases were perishable and left in my black mailbox, which is like an oven, on a warm day. Fortunately I had an unexpected day off from work, so I was able to retrieve them right away. If I hadn't been home all the food would've spoiled very quickly and I would not have been happy. Whenever I've ordered from H&D before my purchase was left by the front door, so I'm not sure why they changed.
