1. Football Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Chocolate Covered Strawberry Footballs

While February isn’t really strawberry season, thanks to everyone’s favorite romantic holiday, bright red berries usually line the produce aisles at least until the middle of the month. They’re not always the sweetest strawberries unfortunately, but that makes them ideal for this super fun recipe that promises to be a game stopper.

These adorable chocolate covered strawberry footballs take just a few minutes to make and can be made a day ahead, leaving you plenty of time to get ready for the big game.

  • 1

Wash strawberries and then pat dry thoroughly. If your strawberries are at all wet, the chocolate will not stick to them.

  • 2

Using either a double boiler or your microwave, melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips until the chips are almost completely melted and the chocolate is starting to look shiny (around a minute in the microwave).

  • 3

Remove the chocolate from the heat source and stir until the chips are fully melted and the chocolate is completely smooth and shiny. If you overheat the chocolate, it might seize and start to look grainy, so err on the side of caution, even if it means taking the chocolate off the heat source multiple times to check whether it is ready.

  • 4

Using a skewer or a fondue fork to spear the top of the strawberries, dip each one into the melted chocolate and swirl it around until it is fully coated.

  • 5

Carefully place the chocolate covered strawberries side by side on a cookie sheet or a plate lined with wax paper, then refrigerate for an hour or so until the semi-sweet chocolate has set.

  • 6

Melt the vanilla or white chocolate chips the same way you melted the semi-sweet chips.

  • 7

Spoon the melted vanilla chips or white chocolate into a small plastic food storage bag and squeeze out as much of the air as possible. With a pair of scissors, snip the tiniest little corner off the bottom of the bag.

  • 8

Let the white chocolate cool down a little bit so it doesn’t run out of the bag too fast, then carefully draw the football stitching onto each strawberry. Don’t worry if your stitching isn’t perfect, the result will still be delicious.

  • 9

Refrigerate until the stitching has set, but, unless it’s very hot where you live, don’t store your strawberries in the refrigerator. Instead, store in plastic container placed in a cool dry place so the chocolate doesn’t sweat.

  • 10

Serve to adoring fans and enjoy!
