In Lauren Grier’s world, the most beautiful recipes aren't just found in books, they’re written in the rhythm of raising a family and being surrounded by love. As the creative force behind The Curious Plate, Lauren has mastered the "approachably adventurous" lifestyle, blending her roles as a cookbook author and recipe developer with the journey  of raising her children: six-year-old Charlotte and four-month-old Victoria.

For Lauren, the home isn’t just where the heart is; it’s where the table is set, the "refrigerator friends" are welcome, and the pantry is always stocked for an impromptu charcuterie moment. We caught up with our Amazing Mom to talk about garden traditions, savory brunches, and how she’s curation-minded when it comes to Mother’s Day.

The Garden as a Living Room

Mother’s Day at the Grier household doesn’t happen at a crowded bistro; it begins in the soil. "One of my favorite traditions is starting our garden," Lauren says. "My daughter picks out the herbs and flowers, and we plant everything together."

It’s a ritual that’s as much about design as it is about dinner. She’s redefining luxury for her daughters, using the H&D Reclaimed Wood Herb Garden to show them that the finest ingredients are those nurtured from soil to kitchen. "It’s about nurturing who they are," she adds, reflecting on her own mother’s advice. "You’re raising a whole person, not a reflection of yourself."

Hosting for the "Unannounced"

There’s a special kind of magic in the "refrigerator friend," the neighbor who feels comfortable enough to hunt for a snack. To maintain her status as the ultimate last-minute host and gathering space, Lauren keeps her kitchen ready with high-quality and healthy staples like Harry & David oranges because there is nothing like nature’s candy.

"I keep Harry & David fruit on hand, especially the oranges, they’re indulgent but also healthy so it’s a win-win," she says. Keeping her house stocked with snacks is part of Lauren’s elevated, low-stress approach to entertaining that prioritizes the conversation and company over the stress and prep work.

The Curated Mother’s Day Edit

Lauren’s gifting philosophy is rooted in a simple rule: if it’s not thoughtful or useful, it doesn’t make the list. This intentionality extends to her own Mother’s Day wishlist, where she favors a "savory shift" over traditional sweets. Her ultimate celebration skips the restaurant rush in favor of a relaxed patio-side vibe, featuring breakfast tacos and Harry & David’s Deluxe Brunch. "I’m not a huge fan of the packed brunch reservations. I’d rather make brunch at home and enjoy a relaxed day with my husband and children."

For Lauren, a gift isn’t truly finished until it’s personalized; whether it’s a monogrammed Weekender Tote or a Floral Initial Herb Garden, that extra layer of intent transforms an object into something special and unique, a keepsake. "Personalization is such an easy way to elevate a gift and make it feel thoughtful," she explains. As for blooms, it’s all about big voluminous blooms, like the Precious Peony Bouquet. "Peonies were in my wedding bouquet, so they’ll always feel sentimental to me," she says.

Nourishing the Village

Lauren is a big believer that motherhood is a team sport, a collective of humans that make the experience better and more fruitful. It takes a village, from the teachers who spend all day with your kids helping them grow and learn, to the mom friends who are always there for emotional support, and the family who steps in when things get hectic.

To show her appreciation for the people in her orbit, she loves giving the gift of time, and what’s better than the gift of not having to cook dinner? Her go-to move is sending a full Harry & David prepared meal, like their Family Style Italian Meal. It’s a tasty  lifesaver and the whole package: Baked Penne with Sausage to a Tiramisu for dessert.

"Showing kindness to the people helping raise your children really matters," she says. Whether she’s setting up a meal train for a friend who needs a break or gifting a Scharffen Berger baking kit as a birthday gift, Lauren’s goal is to make life a little easier (and way more delicious) for her crew.
